What I Actually Used in My Hospital Bag

By the time my body was ready to have my little Nugget, you better be sure I was too. Thirteen separate blog posts, eight YouTube videos, and four full packs and unpacks of my hospital bag convinced me I had everything I needed (and more).

I would say that I waited to unpack the hospital bags until I was ready to sit down and write this blog post, but truth be told I unpacked the bags a week after bringing Ben home, and then realized two days later that I was going to write this post about it. Luckily for my poor, overwhelmed new-mom brain, I somehow remember everything that I actually used while I was recovering in the Hospital.

We’ll start with the few things we brought for Ben.

Honestly, I overpacked for little Benjamin. Underneath his swaddles at the hospital, he was completely bare other than his diaper, and with how tired all three of us were, changing him in and out of clothes every few hours was far less than a priority. We really only needed:

  • One Swaddle, used as a blanket for the ride home. We used the black and white one for Ben.

  • One set of clothes for the ride home. We used the grey pajamas along with the grey hat.

  • One Pacifier

The Hospital I delivered at provided diapers, wipes and swaddles for Ben while he stayed, and I'm glad I decided not to pack any.

For the items we brought for my husband, he just used the change of clothes and that was it. Because the induction was so late at night, he literally fell asleep in the clothes he came to the hospital in and changed right before we left. Sleeping and making sure I was taken care of were more of a priority than reading or playing the Switch.

For the electronics and other miscellaneous items, here’s what we actually used:

  • The Extention cord

  • The Portable power bank. This came pretty handy when I was having a hard time sleeping, my phone was dying, and I wanted to watch an international E-Sports tournament. It was streaming live from Shanghai, and I was up in the wee hours of the morning and could watch it.

  • The Phone Chargers

  • Wallet

  • Instax Mini and the extra film. We took SO many pictures while we were in the Hospital

Now for my bag!

To make this short and simple, I used everything except the Lululemon Leggings and the FlipFlops. I wore a pair of low-cut maternity leggings to the hospital, and they just felt more comfortable wearing back home. Everything else in this part of my bag I actually did use! I will say for the Fuzzy socks to bring either black socks or old ones you really don’t care for. Unfortunately during my first trip to the bathroom after birth, I did get a bit of blood all over one sock…

For my Toiletries, I actually didn’t need to bring as much as I though I would. Here’s what was used:

  • Lavender Shower Bomb. This was great in the post-birth shower to help me relax a little and feel more myself afterwards.

  • Deodorant

  • Toothbrush & toothpaste

  • Hairbrush & comb

  • Facewash

  • Bumble & Bumble Shampoo & Conditioner Sample Set and the Styling Creme

  • Pomegranite Body Wash

  • Glasses and Hubble Contacts

I was so out of it after birth that I really didn’t care about what I looked like, smelled like, or anything. I just wanted to sleep and make sure my brand new baby was fed and happy.

All in all, I could have packed everything into one single bag and left quite a few things at home. But! I am glad I packed what I did for the birth of my first child, but I'll definitely keep in mind my list for future children if we decide to do so.

I am curious to know if any of you mommas out there packed and didn’t use, or if there was anything you thought was an absolute necessity! Let me know in the comments below!

This is all for now my loves!

Tootles,
