Mother's Day Photoshoot

One of my favorite hobbies has always been photography. My cousin was an amazing professional photographer, and I had always hoped to maybe take a photo as great as hers always were. I started with a basic digital Canon point and shoot in the late 2000’s. The image quality at the time was pretty great for a $50 camera, but not completely what I was looking for. My very first purchase as a full-grown adult, living on my own, was my Canon T7i. I had worked with the T6i before, and I knew this one would have the processing capabilities I needed. Then this past Christmas, I was gifted some cash and I was finally able to buy the “Nifty Fifty” Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens. This lens creates that background blurring effect.

ANYWAYS. Now that I have my own baby model, I decided for this Mother’s Day, I wanted to take semi-professional photos for the Grandmothers and Great Grandmothers. This is how they turned out!

So some tips for taking photos with an infant. I am super thankful that Benjamin is a pretty chill infant. He is only ever fussy when he’s hungry or has a wet diaper. Before we changed him into his special outfit, he had some snacks and a small bottle, just to be sure he was content. We changed his diaper, played with him for a minute or two and into the special outfit! This put him in a fantastic mood to start. We took the photos at a local flower garden, even though most flowers were not in season. The tulips were blooming as well as some lilacs and other flowers. New spaces always spark Ben’s curiosity, and he was soaking it all in. The shoot only took about 30 minutes, and I felt that if we had gone any longer, Ben would start to get super fussy. A great call because when we made it back to the car, he had a full diaper and wanted another bottle!

After we arrived at home and put Ben down for his afternoon nap, I got to work on uploading and editing the best photos. The plan was to give each parent/grandparent a picture frame with a picture of Ben. Luckily during this crazy pandemic, Walmart’s photo center was still open, and I was able to print a collage of 3 photos for only 25 cents each! We bought frames at Target and voila! A super simple Mother’s Day gift! I’m writing this before the gifts are given, but I hope they love them!

This is all for now!
