Autumn DIY - Decorative Shelf

Hello everyone!

I’ve mentioned before how Autumn is my favorite season and I love to decorate my space. The cozier the better, am I right? Our bedroom is quite plain and was seriously lacking something that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. That was until one day, browsing through Pinterest, I was saving bedroom decor inspo and realized all the photos I saved had the same thing in them; A shelf above the bed.

In flowed more inspiration for what I would like to do, and searching for materials! The decorations were going to be easy with a Target and Joanne's nearby, the wood however was much harder to find! I knew I wanted one long shelf, but none of the stores anywhere near me sold anything like it. And this mama is not handy with tools, so I knew trying to make something by hand was out of the question. I finally found a 60” wood-like shelf from Amazon and had it shipped to my house. Other decor I had in mind were pictures, pumpkins, and some greenery. I have repurposed the vines from Ben's birthday party on the fireplace, and had extra to lay on the shelf.

For the pictures, I knew I wanted them to be special, and ones that I would enjoy seeing every day. Three photos, one from each year in our lives; Engagement, Wedding, and our first family photo with Benjamin. If you didn't already know, you can print photos at Walmart for pennies. It is insanely easy, and mine are almost always ready in 24 hours or same day! I printed an 8x10 of my favorite from the wedding, a 5x7 from the engagement session, and a 4x6 of our family photo.

Then came finding the last bits of decor, which included tiny pumpkins and picture frames for the freshly printed photos. The pumpkins needed to be small, as the shelf is only 3.5 inches wide. And on top of that, a preferably an unbreakable material. I have two very curious kitties, and one leap on the shelf would be the end of any nice pumpkin I bought. I found a pack of 8 cloth pumpkins in orange and off-white at Target that were small enough to fit on the shelf and were also super cute! Frame-wise, they had to match, and luckily they had three black frames in the sizes I needed. The decor was acquired, and it was time to put it all together!

Here's what the space looked like before I started decorating:

The shelf came with the hardware to hang it and make sure it was leveled! If you asked me where my leveler ended up after the move, I would have as good of an answer as anyone. Best guess would be somewhere in the storage unit. It took me maybe 5 minutes to hang, and then it was time to decorate!

I laid out the greenery, set up the pictures and the pumpkins. The ‘O’ I found literally on the side of the street a few years ago, and the tiny vase with a few strands of eucalyptus from my wedding boutique.

Voila! It instantly changed the feel of our bedroom, and gave it that cozy vibe I was hoping for! The project in total cost $70 and was extremely easy to put together! I’ve linked the products I bought, but in no way are they affiliate links. I just genuinely enjoyed purchasing them for this project!

What DIYs for Autumn have you done so far? Even the smallest bit of decorating makes me so excited to own a house next year.

This is all for now!
