Simple Makeup for a Full-Time Working Mother

Working mamas, lets face it - Sometimes, doing things for ourselves gets put on the back burner to allow us to do more for our children.

This certainly stands true for me! There have been times where I did not put any effort into myself when getting ready for work and it really showed at times. I have found though that even taking just 5 minutes to put effort into myself improves my overall mood for the day.

Before I had kids, I was really into makeup. I saved up money to buy the newest Urban Decay palettes, consumed several hours of beauty guru content on YouTube - I very much enjoyed all things makeup. Fast forward to now a mom of two, my makeup routine is much simpler than it used to be. There are only 7 products I use on my face, and 8 if I get an extra minute or two, or for a more important business day. I very much enjoy using makeup, and I do feel more put together and alive when I have makeup on my face versus when I do not. I know not everyone feels this way, but this is just my personal opinion!

Minus the brushes, here what I currently use in my daily makeup routine as a full-time working mom:

  • Concealer - Tarte’s Shape Tape in color 205 Light Sand

  • Bronzer - Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Branzer

  • Blush - Too Faced Sweetheart Blush in Candy Glow

  • Highlighter - Wet n Wild Highlighting Powder in color C321B Precious Petals

  • Pencil Eyeliner - Cover Girl Perfect Blend Eyeliner in color Black Brown

  • Brow Pencil - Colorpop Brow Pencil in color Brunette

  • Mascara - Basic Beauty Lengthy Lashes

  • Eyeshadow* - Urban Decay’s Naked 3 Pallet for special occasions

That’s it. My everyday makeup routine is extremely simple and truly only takes me 5 minutes to do.

I start with just a tiny bit of concealer under my eyes, around my nose and on any blemishes I may have. I then go in with a very simple contour on my cheekbones, and I blend that into my forehead and my chin. Blush is applied afterwards along with a tiny bit of highlighter. I try not to go too crazy on the highlighter as I want a simpler, more natural look for every day.

I line and shape my brows and then apply my eyeliner. I stopped using liquid eyeliner for several reasons. I could never get the look I wanted, it took too much time, and if I screwed up I would have to restart on my entire eye makeup. I only use my eyeliner pencil along my lash line. I personally feel this gives a very natural look without the risks of making a mistake. Then I apply mascara and voila! My makeup is done for the day!

As I mentioned above, if I’ve got a bigger day at the dance shop like a large fitting or Vendor Representatives coming in, I’ll add some eye shadow before applying my mascara. Nothing too crazy still, but some light browns and maybe a tiny bit of shimmer on my eyelids.

Once you get into the routine of it, applying this simple makeup goes by so fast! I really feel like putting some makeup on at the start of the day gives me a little boost in my confidence for the day.

If makeup really isn’t your thing, finding 5 minutes to do something for you at the start of the day is something I highly recommend. Parenthood is a never-ending full-time job, and it can be hard to set time aside for yourself. Even if it’s something as simple as sipping you coffee by the windowsill or giving for face an extra nice scrub at the start of the day. Really anything that brings you joy and comfort, take the time to do it.

This is all for now my lovelies!
